Jon Kovach Jr., 2016–2017 vice president of member services, is a junior communication and public relations major with a minor in business management at Utah Valley University (UVU) in Orem, Utah. Before transferring to UVU, Kovach obtained his associate degree in business with an associate certificate in accounting at the LDS Business College in Salt Lake City.
Kovach joined UVU’s PRSSA Chapter his sophomore year and was elected vice president of special events. In this role, Kovach shattered UVU PRSSA event attendance records, averaging over 100 participants per monthly event. As the vice president of member services, Kovach’s vision is to increase national membership participation and build powerful relationships with students nationally and abroad.
Kovach has taken top honors representing UVU in national competitions, conferences, and assemblies. Kovach received the award for UVU PRSSA’s Inspiring Newcomer in 2015 and the Outstanding Public Relations Student of the Year in 2016. Kovach previously worked with online outdoor gear retailer, Cotopaxi, and commercial real estate firm Coldwell Banker Commercial Advisors (CBC Advisors) as a public relations intern in Salt Lake City. He also interned with Spectrum Science Communications, Inc. in Washington, D.C. Kovach is a distinguished Tagalog (Filipino) speaker and has an exceptional background in developing materials used to teach and speak the language.
Kovach credits Stephen Whyte, UVU PRSSA’s Faculty Adviser, as a mentor who helped him launch his professional career. Kovach has worked with UVU’s Student Association as a social media manager and Wolverine PR, UVU’s student-run public relations firm, as an associate director.
In his free time, Kovach enjoys road trips, camping, backpacking, and hiking with his wife in the national parks and forests. Kovach plans to continue creating meaningful relationships throughout the world and serve as an ambassador for Philippine-American relations and international affairs.
