Immediate Past President

Emma Finkbeiner

Emma Finkbeiner is a graduate student at DePaul University in Chicago pursuing a master’s degree in public relations and advertising. She is an alumna of Northern Michigan University (NMU) with a bachelor’s degree in public relations and journalism.

Finkbeiner joined the NMU Chapter of PRSSA her sophomore year and quickly became an active member. She became Chapter president for the 2014–2015 term. Finkbeiner was elected the National Assembly delegate for NMU and traveled to Portland, Oregon, where she was chosen to serve as the PRSSA 2015-2016 National Publications Editor in Chief.

As the editor in chief, Finkbeiner initiated a redesign of the tri-annual newspaper FORUM and proceeded to publish all three issues on time with an increasing amount of content while simultaneously running the national blog, Progressions. She also participated in the website redesign task force, which she then led during her term as National President. As National President, Finkbeiner helped successfully launch the new PRSSA website, passed a bylaw amendment that restructured responsibilities and retitled positions on the National Committee and organized one of the most highly attended PRSSA National Assemblies on record.

Finkbeiner has also held positions as editor in chief of NMU’s award-winning student newspaper, The North Wind, a resident adviser and led an independent research project on higher education and job growth in the Upper Peninsula through the Michigan Governor’s Northern Michigan Office. She interned with Invent@NMU, a hardware development think tank in Marquette, where she implemented media relations tactics for the organization and its clients and increased their campus and community presence. Upon her move to Chicago, Finkbeiner began a position with the DePaul University Community & Government Relations office before earning a summer internship with the World Series Champion Chicago Cubs in marketing communications.
