HATTIESBURG, MISS.– The members of the University of Southern Mississippi’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) welcomed university president, Dr. Martha Saunders, to their November meeting. Saunders offered valuable advice to students about finding a job and spoke about the importance of public relations.
“The importance of a real understanding of public relations at the very highest levels in any organization is just crucial,” said Saunders, a Southern Miss alumna.
Saunders is the ninth president of the university and is the winner of two Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Silver Anvil Awards, including the 2010 Silver Anvil for her entry, “The Southern Miss Story: Enriching the Brand of a Research University Through a Centennial Celebration.”
Saunders challenged attendees to remember six things to help secure and keep a job:
Saunders said her job is rewarding because she is able to walk outside and see the students and think, “This person could be the next Nobel Prize winner. We could have a cure for cancer walking down the street and we’re helping them get there. I’m helping that happen. “
The USM Chapter of PRSSA strives to serve its members by enhancing their knowledge of public relations and providing access to professional development opportunities and serve the public relations profession by helping to develop highly qualified, well-prepared professionals.
