Vice President of Career Services
Sarah Dougherty, 2016–2017 vice president of career services, is a senior at The University of Alabama (UA) in Tuscaloosa. She will graduate in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in public relations and Spanish with a global studies certificate.
As a freshman, Dougherty jumped into UA PRSSA and became involved with its internal communications committee. She was elected to serve her sophomore year as fundraising chair before spending spring 2016 abroad in Seville, Spain. Dougherty served her Chapter as vice president her junior year, where she secured more than 13 professional speakers, coordinated Teahan Chapter Award submissions and was the special events coordinator for Innovating Tradition, UA’s 2016 Regional Conference. She attended National Conference in 2014 and 2015, which gave her a taste of how impactful being involved with PRSSA on a national scale can be. Having served UA PRSSA on the executive board for two years in diverse roles, she knew it was time to take her passion for PRSSA and career development to benefit members on a new level.
On campus, Dougherty has served as assistant firm director and account executive in UA’s Nationally Affiliated Student-run Firm, Capstone Agency. She worked on the Plank Center for Leadership in Public Relations and SunTrust Bank accounts. Dougherty also works as a student assistant for the College of Communication and Information Sciences, shaping the student voice in social media and internal communication.
Dougherty has held a variety of internships in higher education, aviation, hospitality and travel, most recently with Southwest Airlines and Cengage Learning.
In the summer of 2016, Dougherty will be part of the Harold Burson Summer Internship program at Burson-Marsteller in Washington, D.C.
When she’s off the clock, Dougherty loves to travel, say “roll tide” and shamelessly watch “The Bachelor.” She’s on a mission to see every baseball stadium in America and find the best brunch wherever she goes.
