Vice President of Career Services
Jacqueline Odalys Barraza, PRSSA 2019-2020 vice president of career services, is a senior at California State University, Sacramento. She will graduate in May 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts in communication studies with a concentration in public relations. Upon graduation, she hopes to continue her education by earning her master’s following her doctoral degree to become a professor and researcher in public relations.
Barraza joined PRSSA Sacramento State Chapter her sophomore year and has since earned her way up the executive board with positions as secretary, digital director, and her past position as vice president. On the regional level, she has served as a 2018-2019 PRSSA Regional Ambassador and was one of the co-coordinators who led this year’s 2019 PRSSA Regional Conference PR is a Breeze in the City of Trees.
Barraza’s passion for career services grew from her experience on the PRSSA Sacramento State executive board as she noticed a lack of preparation for graduating members entering the professional field. Her involvement in PRSSA has refined her skills in resumes, cover letters, and interview etiquette that will prepare her to serve members in the society.
One of Barraza’s recent ambassadorship position with Riddle & Bloom involved representing one of the most innovative companies in the world, Amazon. In her position, she educated students on her campus about Prime Student benefits through weekly events and her social media presence. This experience helped her build professionalism while adhering to the brand’s mission and goals.
Aside from PRSSA, Barraza enjoys tutoring and mentoring incoming freshmen at her university to assist them with the transition of becoming a college student. On her own time, Barraza enjoys reading her ongoing list of novels, attending pop-up art museums, and going on adventurous trips with her friends.
