Vice President of Diversity & Inclusion

Haniya Shariff

An honors student majoring in public relations, Haniya Shariff graduated with summa Cum laude from the Klein College of Media and Communication at Temple University in May 2020.

Haniya joined Temple PRSSA her junior year and earned her way up to the executive board as the first director of diversity & inclusion for the organization. In this position, she educated members about the importance of diversity & inclusion, particularly in PR, initiated open discussions with students about D&I, celebrated students’ identities, and provided guidance on how to navigate the field as a diverse PR practitioner. On a national level, Haniya now serves as the vice president of diversity & inclusion on the 2020–2021 National Committee.

With her passion for diversity & inclusion and an eye toward developing human potential, she is excited to foster an environment where every PRSSA member will be able to thrive because of their differences.

With her warm and friendly personality, Haniya enjoys traveling and meeting new people. In the summer of 2018, she studied abroad in London and became an inclusive and enthusiastic leader amongst a diverse group of students. In October 2019, she traveled to the PRSSA International Conference in San Diego, California, where she met leaders of the PR industry and shared key D&I lessons she learned from them with members of Temple PRSSA.

Haniya has also held various internship positions, the most recent being a PR intern for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). At CHOP, Haniya’s responsibilities included writing and editing engaging patient and employee feature stories for several media platforms, performing and analyzing research, and attending and assisting at events like the Black Tie Tailgate Event for the Philadelphia Auto Show. She hopes to work in the hospital or healthcare industries using her gifts of communication to build interpersonal networks and create diversity & inclusion initiatives.

In her spare time, Haniya loves to watch YouTube videos about psychology and home design. She is also a French toast and omelet connoisseur with an interest in fitness, video games, and beauty.
